The Society for Writers Editors and Translators has kindly given me a chance to read a chapter of my current work-in-peristalsis, King of the Undies World, at an event on October 6.
This despite the fact SWET have previewed the proposed passage.
There will be four readers — Jared Angel, Suzanne Kamata and Rebecca Otowa and me.
I am feeling very self-conscious and not inconsiderably silly because I know Suzanne, Jared and Rebecca will be reading real literature, and I’ll be reading about underpants. Underpants in Disneyland with a banana, and I suspect I may stand out a bit.
In an ancient blog post I likened doing these readings to going in front of people with your underpants on your head. That remark now looks prophetic.
I’m in a bit of cold SWET, you might say.
This is the first public outing for King of the Undies World and, depending on the reaction it may be going back in the drawer.
However, this is not the first underwear-related publication from Page. You will of course have perfect recall of my collection of short fiction titled with stunning originality Shorts (which I am not now mentioning to plug, available from Kindle and all good ebook sellers) the cover of which features, with equal originality, a pair of shorts.
And, yes, they are.
Shorts, you will also recall, was re-packaged in paperback re-titled Un-Tall Tales and containig two extra stories — bonus tracks, so to speak — and very much available from Amazon.
The event will be on October 6th in Kobe (the Kobe in Japan). The venue and the SWET event page are yet to be published, and when they are it will be a good excuse for me to plug this event again.
See you there? Bring headgear.
